18th Rye Island Crayons

Under the auspices of the President of the Trnava Self-Governing Region Ing. TIBOR MIKUŠ, PhD.

A contest with transcontinental representation ...

A big vernissage  for the little artists of the winning works of the 18th International Competition, The  Rye Island Crayons 2017, took place on the first Friday of June.

Nearly 2800 artworks of children between two and seven years of age had been sent into the competition to the closing date. Having made extremely difficult decisions, the jury had selected 50 equal winners, who had then been invited to the festive evaluation and awarding ceremony held in the Rye Island Museum in Dunajská Streda. The whole exhibition consists of 230 pictures altogether and part of it is installed in the GALLERY NOVA of the Rye Island Enlightenment Centre.

The program of the vernissage begun with the performance of the Maestro Clown Adrian Ohrádek, who, without uttering a word, accompanied by cheerful music, granted wonderful and highly enjoyable entertainment not only for the children but also for their parents and grandparents – everyone had splendid fun. The invited guests from all parts of Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia and the Czech Republic were officially welcomed in our town by the Mayor of Dunajská Streda, ZOLTÁN HÁJOS. On behalf of the President of the Trnava Self-Governing Region Tibor Mikuš, Vice-President JÓZSEF BERÉNYI greeted the audience. Both speeches were filled with admiration and respect for the artworks and their little creators. The guests included the Mayor of Šamorín Gábor Bárdos, Vice-mayor of  the Town of Veľký Meder Dénes Mikóczy and the Mayor of the Municipality of Padáň Zoltán Szabó. On behalf of the Town of Győr we welcomed Tibor Diligens  A brief review of the competition followed in Slovak language by Dr. Bohumír Bachratý and in Hungarian language it was the painter Robert Almási who evaluated the artworks. It was a hard task for the Jury to choose the right words to describe those 50 awarded pictures, especially because if it had been possible, they would have awarded at least  200 more works – they all would have deserved the prize, so high is the level of our competition. Nonetheless, the Jury  found it important to thank the little artists for their beautiful works and also to their teachers and parents who work and support the talented children with enormous enthusiasm.  Nowadays, such attitude is very important.

The prizes were handed over to the little winners by public and social authorities of the district and the Trnava self-governing region, as well as by representatives of companies and individuals who had contributed financially to the purchase of the gifts. Ing. Stefan Papp, head of the company Agrotop Topoľníky, for instance, has been supporting the competition since 1996. Ing. Anna Juhos of Stavoinvesta Dunajská Streda has also been financially contributing to the contest for nearly 12 years;  the company Agripent from Lehnice has been very generous in the last few years and the toys purchased from the company’s money have been handed over to the winners by Gitka Kovačiková. Not to forget Restaurant Castel Pension,  Remax Real Center and PhMr. Judit Kertész. The towns of Dunajská Streda, Šamorín, Veľký Meder and the municipalities of Padáň, Okoč, Veľké Blahovo and Vydrany had also contributed to the prizes of their small residents. The company MINIT contributed to the catering at the vernissage.

Thank you all very much !!!

The Rye Island Enlightenment Centre also published an exclusive catalogue in three languages and created unique certificates for the winners. The children also received T-shirts with the logo of the event, which had been sponsored by the company SILVA TRADE s.r.o.

The exhibition is open in the Rye Island museum until 29th July and afterwards will travel to a number of Slovak towns. Three further exhibitions will be held in Hungary.
